Original 1st printing 8&1/2 x 11" event/concert flyer/ticket-order form for the 6/27-28/1970 opening shows of the Trans-Continental Pop Festival, held at the CNE Grandstand in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The flyer (the first and second shows on the legendary "Festival Express" train tour across Canada) lists performances by the Band, the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin (*and the Full-Tilt Boogie Band), Buddy Guy, Delaney & Bonnie, Mashmakan, Cat (*Mother & the All-Night Newsboys), Traffic (with Steve Winwood), Ten Years After, Charlebois, James & the Good Brothers, Eric Andersen, Mountain, Ian & Sylvia (with the Great Speckled Bird), Tom Rush, Sea Train and Melanie. (*not all acts performed)
Design by Ken Walker and John Lown, image (poster) is featured in the Art of Rock on page 376 (plate 4.132).
Thin flat stock flyer is in excellent (B+) condition; just a small 3/4" horizontal edge tear in the upper right margin, a few light handling dings here and there, a whisper of toning and a couple of nearly-invisible edge nicks, otherwise fine.
As mentioned above, these were the opening shows of the tour- there was quite a bit of unrest outside the venue and a few scuffles with the local law enforcement were reported. Here's a clip of the Band (featuring the one and only Levon Helm) performing "The Weight" from the "Festival Express" film;
