Original 1st printing 22 x 14&1/8" concert poster and 17&1/8 x 11&18" ORIGINAL ART (pen/ink on art board) for oddball one-hit sensation P.J. Proby appearing with Chosen Few and Mourning Reign at the Continental Auditorium (Ballroom) in Santa Clara, CA on 3/4/1967.
Art by (and SIGNED in black pen by) Frank Lee Cannon, medium-thick flat vellum stock poster is in decent/used (B-) condition; there is a 3/4 x 1" area of missing paper in the bottom right corner, along with a series of thin vertical creases going up and down the left/right margins, tape strains in the corners, assorted small bends, a fairly heavy amount of handling wear, a few stray surface pulls and scuffs... definitely on the used side, but still (mostly) all there.
The artwork (black pen/marker on thick Bristol art board) is definitely in decent shape; there are a few overlays/minor corrections here and there and the board itself has a series of light surface scrapes, a few tiny pin holes scattered around the outer edges, tape pulls on the reverse and a bit of edge/corner wear, but overall it looks pretty good for a 50-year-old psychedelic artwork.
FASCINATING pair of artifacts from the earliest days of the legendary South Bay venue. According to the artist, the headliner (P.J. Proby) was so disappointed with the turnout, he refused to come out of his dressing room!
